How it's calculated

Net burn is the first month's expenses minus that month's revenue. The amounts you enter are month one. Each later month applies the optional growth rates, then cash changes by revenue minus expenses. When growth is zero and expenses are higher, months of runway are cash on hand divided by that monthly gap. The table keeps going until cash reaches zero, or for 50 years if it does not. A projection that never reaches zero is cash-flow positive, and it has no run-out date.

Net burn = expenses − revenue
Next month = this month × (1 + monthly growth)

Questions

How is net burn calculated?

Net burn is the first month's expenses minus that month's revenue. A positive number is cash leaving. A negative number is a monthly surplus.

How do the monthly growth rates work?

The revenue and expenses you enter are month one. Each later month multiplies revenue by one plus the revenue growth rate, and expenses by one plus the expense growth rate. Leave a rate blank for no change.

When is the projection cash-flow positive?

It is cash-flow positive when revenue covers expenses in every checked month, so the cash balance never reaches zero. The check looks ahead 50 years. If cash would run out later than that, the result says cash still remains.
